Fashion design director: Richard Roelofse

Richard Roelofse graduated in 1994 from the renowned fashion department at Arnhem academy of Art and Design, The Netherlands. After working as a junior fashion designer for avant-garde fashion designer Walter van Beirendonck (‘the six of Antwerp’), he was hired by one of Europe’ prime clothing retailer, C&A (EBSCO). At their menswear department in Brussels, he worked on repositioning projects of C&A brands, global trend scouting projects and he developed fashion trends presentations.

William Baird Group (UK) assigned Richard in 1998 to develop a new casual wear segment for their classical menswear brand Van Gils. Richard was responsible for the design of Van Gils’ first ever- casual wear collections - and for the revitalization of the brand’ image.

Richard started several new clothing brands from the bottom up - from concept, design through to sourcing and production (China, Turkey, Portugal, Tunisia, Italy, Indonesia). In 2002 Richard and a business partner got a clothing licence for Greyhound Lines USA - and in 2004 a clothing licence for NYSP (New York Sports Clubs).

By winning K-Swiss Europe’ International brand identity pitch in 2005, he got the opportunity to design and develop K-Swiss’ first ever European life-style sportswear brand identity. He was also in charge of collection concepts, clothing collections and product development.

In 2008 Richard established fashion design company ‘freelancefashiondesign.com’. Together with a team of International designers he is working on ‘global’ clients.
